A Sneak Peak into Ollie's First Adventure
We are only a few weeks away from publishing our first book in what we hope to be a series of stories about Ollie the Oopskey Monster. Our books are illustrative children's books that tell stories of a curious monster who finds a time portal inside of our juicebar, Juicekeys, and travels through time to have incredible adventures. Ollie has lots of fun but also learns about history, inventions, and remarkable feats. Our first book opens up with Ollie stumbling upon a town called Apple Pie Paradise. It is here that he finds Juicekeys on main street. Once in Juicekeys, Ollie spots the Oopskeys freezer, and when he opens the door and grabs hold of an Oopskey, he is suddenly pulled into a time portal and travels through time.
In Ollie's first adventure, he travels to Waikiki beach in Hawaii in 1910 to surf with legendary surfer Duke Kahanamoku. Ollie and Duke surf some waves and Ollie learns some interesting facts about surfing and Duke.
- Duke's first surfboard is 16 feet tall and weighs over 100 pounds.
- Duke's surfboard is made from Koa Trees which can only be found on Hawaii.
- Duke won a gold medal in swimming and introduced surfing to Australia and the Atlantic Coast of the USA
- Duke once surfed a wave for over one mile. It’s considered the longest surf ride in modern history.
- In 1925 Duke, on his surfboard, rescued 8 drawing men off the coast of California, in what was called “the most superhuman surfboard rescue act the world has ever seen!”
After this incredible adventure Ollie falls off his surfboard and a wave takes him down to the same time portal which transports him back to Juicekeys in Apple Pie Paradise. Ollie, in disbelief, pulls out his note pad and takes notes on his adventure. It is here we will use Ollie's notes to teach kids history, knowledge and fundamentals. Ollie records in his notes all the points about Duke and surfing that I have listed above.
There will be two stories always going on with Ollie. The first will be his time traveling adventures. The second will be the adventures he has in the Mo Mocha Mountains and in Apple Pie Paradise. There will be learning themes in both story lines around history, knowledge, and fundamentals. This is just a brief introduction to what I hope will be many blog post about Ollie and his adventures.
